Hundreds of Florida families are now able to choose an educational option that best meets the needs for their children thanks to a recent court ruling.
Parental choice in education in Florida had been challenged by a union lawsuit. In question specifically, were Florida’s Sunshine State’s Personal Learning Scholarship Accounts, put in place to aid families of children with specific special needs, allowing parents to tailor their child’s educational path. This same union lawsuit also threatened to inhibit the growth of Florida’s 13-year old tax credit scholarship program, which provides students of poverty scholarships to choose their preferred school.
Thankfully, the Florida justice system found that union groups supporting the lawsuit lacked proof to challenge these school choice options. School choice in Florida was upheld and we are excited for the many families who will now have more educational options.
We think The Daily Signal article about this issue sums it up best:
School choice measures such as personal learning scholarship accounts and tax credit scholarships allow those who know the needs of the child best— the parents— to choose an educational option that best meets the needs of the child. The recent court victory will allow hundreds of Florida families to do just that.
